Diploma en Zoología (1986) y Dr. rer. nat.. 1991) en la Universidad de Hamburgo, Alemania. Becario (Noviembre del 1986 hasta Diciembre del 1987) del "Servicio Alemán de Intercambio Académico" (DAAD) para trabajar en Colombia (Santa Marta) y Costa Rica (CIMAR, Universidad de Costa Rica). Profesor invitado. 1991-1995) a través del DAAD en el Instituto de Zoología de la Universidad Austral de Chile. Consultor (Enero - Diciembre del 2000) en el área de manejo integrado de áreas costeras del "Servicio Alemán de Desarrollo" (DED) en Mindanao, Filipinas. Desde de Enero del 2001 "experto integrado" del "Centro Internacional de Migración y Desarrollo" (CIM, Alemania) y profesor en la Escuela de Biología de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Curador de la colección de crustáceos del Museo de Zoología, Escuela de Biología, Universidad de Costa Rica. Áreas de interés: biodiversidad acuática, educación ambiental, pesquería. Especies de interés: decápodos marinos y de agua dulce.
